Alayna Shoenfelt’s research investigates age-related differences in social decision making, including in online (e.g., phishing) and in-person (e.g., face-to-face deception detection) contexts. Currently, she examines how age-related shifts in the ability to perceive socioemotional cues, including eye-gaze and emotion, may contribute to declines in social decision making. In this work, she leverages EEG/ERP and novel eye-tracking methods—such as simultaneous MRI-eye tracking and dual eye tracking—to delineate neural and visuo-attentional processes associated with age-related differences in deciding to trust or distrust. She is also interested in the role of biological risk factors for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias, which may compound age-related decline.
